...is a very talented lady! Make no mistake, Sam knows what she's talking about. Twenty plus years as a ranchers's wife, she's herded horses, cows, sheep, and daughters. In college, she was the only girl in the LIVESTOCK SELECTION and FEEDS AND FEEDING curriculum and was everybody's "favorite date" because she'd help with the spring branding. She can construct a perfect stack of hay, keep a calf warm on the floor of her truck or the floor of her kitchen, and keep the scour medicine in her fridge separate from the salad dressing she made for last night's supper. Her "honors" and "awards" are too numerous to mention but include multiple-year nominations for "Female Cowboy Poet of the Year" from the Western Music Association. Sam's also the recipient of the 2008 Will Rogers Award for "Humorist of the Year" from the Academy of Western Artists. Besides all the gatherings she attends, the shows, fairs and festivals, trips to schools to talk with kids about Cowboy Poetry, Sam has been chosen, for many years, as one of the judges for the annual National Cowboy Poetry Rodeo competitions. Sam's background gives her all the ideas for her often humorous but sometimes tear-evoking stories. Much of her original poetry is taken from her own family's geneology, happenings from day to day life, from people she's met and the places she's been. Raised in eastern (Black Foot) Idaho, Sam now makes her home just outside of Ogden (Roy), Utah.
Poet Fred Engel looks at things from a cowboy point of view because that's how he sees 'em best. He's been on stage both as a performer and as Master of Ceremonies at cowboy shows and gatherings, school and church functions, and business seminars in California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, and Nebraska. A member of the Western Music Association and Cowboy Poets of Utah, Engel lives in the mountains of Northern Utah.
Red Cliffs Press is pleased to announce the release of "EQUINE", the all new/all original seventh studio recording from Utah Singer/Songwriter Brenn Hill. "EQUINE" features 16 original songs that in large part focus on the relationship between people and their horses. It includes audience favorites like "Monster On Your Back", a song written about seventy-plus-year-old cowboy legend Bill Hadlock from Huntsville, Utah, and "Ridin' Them Colts", a song about a cowboy's life-long addiction to colt-breaking. Other live-performance favorites like "Rachel's Roses", "Nothin' In This Life" and "Carter Cedars" commemorate the profound struggle of cancer and the healing power of horses, while "The Ballad of Ed Cantrell" honors the life and career of the controversial lawman from Sweetwater County, Wyoming. "EQUINE" features an all-star cast of award-winning musicians such as Larry Beaird, Jonathan Yudkin, JT Corenflos, and Eddie Bayerz. Recorded at Beaird Music Group studios in Nashville, Tennessee, the result is a broad array of musical influences and tastes that create a diverse listening experience for any music lover. The recording comes on the heels of some of the most challenging experiences of Hill's life and will leave you with good reason to be hopeful for the injured bronc-rider, the cancer-stricken child, or the horses that bring peace to the high and low points of life. It is an inspiring look at the generational nature of equine love, ranching, fatherhood, and the ever-determined western spirit. If you love horses you must have "EQUINE".

You sense no influences. This is pure, marvelous, unadulterated vocal styling that comes as natural as a southern breeze...and her songwriting is fascinating." Mary Kaye was born and raised in the South but her music is rooted in the West where she now resides with her husband and their ten children. Retired firefighter and truck mechanic. Lover of Cowboy and Western Music. I enjoy performing cowboy poetry. I write most of what I recite and I have one CD titled "Riding the Range." I am also a member of the Cowboy Poets of Utah. I have performed in several venues (Heber City, Elk0, Valentine, NE) and several smaller shows. Some of my poems are from memories, some from hopes and dreams. One of my favorites is a historically correct story of Lane Frost, the young bull rider who inspired the movie "Eight Seconds."
