Jane Shehan grew up in Wisconsin dreaming of living in the mountains. So, the summer she turned 18 she headed west and never looked back. She worked at a dude ranch in near Nye Montana and her love affair with the west became reality. She worked the next summer at the renound Triangle X Ranch, in Teton National Park where her singing career began and where her second family, The Turners, was found.
Jane started the ranch as a cabin girl and after many years as a wrangler and pack trip cook, she became the head wrangler and ran the horse corrals.
Jane met her husband Daryl, a hunting guide for the ranch, and in 1987 they were married. The first years of marriage Jane cooked for Daryl on pack trips into the Bridger Teton Wilderness. She still remembers singing on her horse down the trail to pass the time and to let the Grizzlies know she was coming. The old night herding songs with their haunting melodies and wonderful history are her favorites. She sang at ranch cookouts, wrangling the horses in the morning and dayherding, singing to the horses to pass the time. She still loves singing them around the campfire with the cracklin sound of the fire and the smoke in her eyes. This is truly where she is at home and where these songs- so important to the history of the west, come alive.
Jane's debut CD is titled Snowstorms and Mule Wrecks. Her CD can be found at her website, JaneShehan.com.
