KG & The Ranger

Award-winning yodeling plus "charm and style" make this husband and wife duo from Wisconsin truly special. But harmony yodeling isn't the only thing KG & The Ranger excel at! They have also won awards for showmanship, rope tricks and their creative harmony singing. Their mission is to keep the vintage cowboy songs alive. They are always looking for the lost gems of cowboy music and love to perform these rare songs as well as the familiar classics. Throw in some good old-fashioned humor and a spinning lariat and you get a show guaranteed to make you smile.

As Ranger Doug of Riders In The Sky said: "KG & The Ranger sing with charm and style, they yodel spectacularly, choose great material with unerring taste, and write fine new songs as well. Their growing and continuing success is well deserved."

Karen Gogolick (KG) and Rick Roltgen (The Ranger) met at a community barn dance and started playing together in an old-time string band. It quickly became obvious that they both loved classic cowboy songs, and in 1989 the duo KG & The Ranger was born. Many years of musical experience, from folk music to barbershop, combined to create their present unique Western sound. From three or four shows a year when they first started, their schedule now averages 150 performances per year. National performances have included Silver Dollar City in Branson, MO; Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival at Melody Ranch, CA; Wild West Expo at the Will Rogers Memorial Museum; Ozarks Folk Center in Mountain View, AR; Cowboy Symposium in Cartersville GA; National Festival of the West in Phoenix.

In 1999 they added another dimension to their western repertoire. They introduced "Shortcut Curly" (the Ranger's alter-ego): an 8-foot-tall stilt-walking rope-spinning cowpoke. The idea for this character came from doing school shows and looking for a great way to connect with the kids. It grew to include a hilarious and unique armadillo-powered mini covered wagon, and has led to an active sideline of parades, fairs, and festivals (see photo gallery).

Versatile and fun, soulful and creative - KG & The Ranger will take you on an unforgettable musical ride through the sagebrush.
