Blue Sage had it's beginning over thirty five years ago when, like many teenagers in the seventies, Mike Iverson first picked up a guitar. Coming from western stock, both his mother and step-dad are Wyoming natives, Mike soon found himself gravitating toward the folk music of the west. It was the first steps of a musical journey that would eventually lead him to the instrument he is most associated with - the banjo. Mike's unique approach to clawhammer banjo gives this band a sound unlike any other, but it's his rich baritone voice and vast repertoire of western, folk, and bluegrass songs that are the heart and soul of Blue Sage!
Joining Mike in Blue Sage are two very talented members of his family, his wife Shauna on bass violin and daughter Heather on fiddle; both fine musicians in their own right.
With the 2005 release of their CD, "Live At The Junction Theater", folks outside of the intermountain west are now able to experience the exciting blend of folk and western music Blue Sage has been bringing to live audiences for the last fifteen years...
"Mike Iverson has spent some 35 years working to blend American folk music with his western heritage... Live at the Junction Theater offers a mix of instrumental music and heart-tugging ballads that will surely draw listeners." - KP for Western Horseman Magazine - September 2005
"It's one of the most refreshing albums I've listened to all year. I love the simple instrumentation. You (Blue Sage) make a banjo and fiddle work together better than anyone I've ever heard - and there's nothing "showy" about it. I hope you make this CD available to western music fans everywhere - as well as bluegrass fans. This is outstanding material" - Marvin O'Dell for "Around the Campfire" - internet radio program at Classicheartland.comMusic Sample
