Jim Brooks

Western as the sunset, Jim Brooks has followed Roundup Wagons, chased Mustangs, and punched cows pretty much all over the cow country since he was a teen-ager. He's stepped 'cross some of the worst anvil headed broncs that ever wore hair, throwed thousands of loops, in all kinds of weather, off them same broncs and done it all out in the middle of the Big Open, amongst the tall and uncut. For years, in between Spring and Fall Roundups, Jim competed in every one of Rodeo's "standard" events, Bull Riding, Bareback, Saddle Bronc, Steer Wrestling, Calf Roping and Team Roping, sometimes working all six of 'em at the same contest. In his spare time, this Puncher has written and illustrated several informative how-to books about Riding for the Brands, Horse Handling, and Roping, and he's put together the only 90-minte Working Cowboy Video in the United States, COWBOY JIM, that names and demonstrates most of the loops used in the art of humane horse roping. He's a Gold Card holdling Lifetime Member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA), a former member of the California Cutting Horse Association, a current member of the Screen Actors Guild and the Western Music Association. Jim's motto has always been KEEPING THE WEST WESTERN, and he makes sure his message stays clear as a bell by constantly writing and composing new ranch music songs and showcasing his big, noisy RANCH HAND band at clubs, dances, rodeos, riots, hangings and all other kinds of Western Get-Togethers...

Jennifer Lind

Academy of Western Artists 2010 Western Music Female

Nominated for 2010 AWA Album of the Year (Cowboy State of Mind) and 2010 AWA Song of the Year (Cowboy State of Mind)

Jennifer Lind released her first CD titled ‘Cowboy State of Mind’ in March 2009. Lind has a flair for ballads and has a unique crossover sound of Cowboy / Folk style music that captures your attention.  When Lind was asked about her musical background, she spoke of her talented family. Her mother Carol, was an Opera singer at a young age, and released records in her teens. She also recalls spending hours with her Grandfather, Pasquale Rosato in his bright sunny music studio. Lind would draw musical staffs across the chalkboard, and her Grandfather would instruct her where to fill in the notes. Pasquale taught accordion for over 25 years, and owned the Blue Note Music Store in Stockton California. At age 12, her mother bought a 12 string guitar for her. Lind asked her neighbor Russ (a Rock and Roll guitarist) if he would teach her a few chords. He taught her just enough to be able to work out a few popular Folk songs. At age 17, Lind put her guitar down, as life took a different turn. She met her husband Andrew (best friend, now ‘Sound Man’) in 1986. They were married in 6 months, and had three children together. Taking care of her family was the most important thing to her. Her husband stated, “Even though she stopped playing her guitar, she never stopped singing”. Five years ago, Andrew purchased a new Martin guitar for Jennifer, and she soon followed her dream. She took a few guitar lessons, started performing, recorded her album and became a performing member of the WMA. Lind crossed paths with what she calls her “Trail boss” Producer, Engineer, and friend, Jason Barney. With friends and talented musicians, together they produced Cowboy State of Mind. All songs were written by Randy Sparks, except "Old Cowboy" which was written by Jason Barney. Jennifer is now a member of the New Christy Minstrels folk group found here: www.thenewchristyminstrels.com

Austin O'Dell

Austin is a 17-year old who grew up with a love and natural talent for music, and a few years ago got “turned-on” to cowboy music and the cowboy way!  You will hardly see Austin without his guitar in hand; that’s his love, but can also find his way around the mandolin.  Although he is perfectly content to provide backup guitar for other performers, he’s also becoming an accomplished singer.  Making his debut in a showcase at the 2010 Western Music Association Showcase in Albuquerque, NM, he left the audience saying “wow” after completing his first song.  A pleasant baritone with his own touch of twang made for easy listening and a distinctive style.  When introducing Austin, one emcee said “he comes with his own pedigree and roots in western music since he’s the grandson of WMA Songwriter of the Year, Marvin O’Dell.”  Most recently, Austin has teamed with young Canadian WMA performing artist, Naomi Bristow of Ontario, Canada, making their debut appearance as a western duo at the Kamloops Western Gathering.  Calling themselves “No Borders”, they are ridin’ the trail between California and Canada and places yet to be determined!

L.K. Potts

L.K. Potts is an award-winning singer-songwriter who calls Northern California home. Originally from Oregon, his songs reflect a love of the outdoors and are grounded in majestic landscapes of the West, where small town values, local stories and snapshots of American history and local lore provide a backdrop for his newly released first Western album, "Gone West." Clear lyrics, strong melodies, and professional production aim to tell a story and make a point. Combining the serious and humorous, his tunes speak of dogs, trains, hats, love lost and won, quirky frontier characters, outlaws, and epic tributes to courage and the individual American spirit. Driven by an ambition to share his songs with others, he likes nothing better than to settle into a house concert or special event and sing his heart out solo or with his musical pals, getting in some good laughs and spontaneous connections with his audiences. Writing, recording, and performing have become a full-time passion for this newcomer to Western music, and he hankers to bring more to the table and meet the people who make the life, poetry, and music of the West on their can't-miss list.

Robert Wagoner

Born in 1928, Bob Wagoner became interested in the music of the silver screen cowboys early on. He met Roy Rogers and the Sons of the Pioneers in the early 1940s and the remained life-long friends. As a teen-ager, Bob, guitarist Billy Strange, fiddler Billy Armstrong and Don Hoag formed a band. Then Bob joined Tommy Duncan's All-Stars and they made the first recording of his composition, "High Country." Later, he worked with the legendary Ray Whitley. In 1951, Foy Willing & the Riders of the Purple Sage offered Bob a job. He turned it down and Foy hired Dale Warren instead. Bob then moved from music to mining, spending several years in the desert where he developed a love for that setting. There, he further developed his skills as a painter of western scenery until he met and joined The Reinsmen. Wth them, he recorded a number of classic sides, appeared on TV specials and he invited them to join him at the annual Death Valley Encampment, an event they continued to headline for many years. He developed a long friendship with Ken Curtis and renewed his friendship with Bob Nolan who spent time with Bob and his family at their home in the high sierras. In 1988, Wagoner was one of the founding members of the WMA and soon became a life member. Though he spends most of his time painting, Bob devoted considerable time in the 1990s to perfecting multiple audio recording in his home studio where he began recording classic western songs and many that might have been lost had he not resurrected them. In the early 1990s he issued a number of cassettes and in recent years has released 5 CDs. For more on Robert Wagoner, see REINSMEN: Painters of the West in Song by Ken Griffis (1997).
